The Weekend

We spent this weekend in Colonia, Uruguay; just a 60 minute ride across the river from Buenos Aires. Good weather, nice sights, and of course top notch wine and beef!

Uruguay

Well, we had a good time in Uruguay, hanging out in Jose Ignacio for the weekend. It wasn’t tropical, but it was coastal and we were extremely lucky to have seen a pod of Southern Right Whales that followed us all the way down the beach.

Uruguay is situated such that it is a common hangout for Argentinians; and there is plenty of investment coming from that side of the river. Beach houses galore, but the crazyness of Montevideo and the towering vacation apartments of Punta del Este are nicely offset by the calm, quiet houses of Jose Ignacio. Expect great wine, great food, and the place to yourself in the winter. Also make sure to take some money out before you leave Punta (we didn’t), because the nearest bank machine is 20km away from Jose. Which is excatly what we were looking for; somewhere to lay low and get some personal space!

We were sad to leave, but hopefully we can make it back next spring or fall, before the crowds (and summer prices). Even if it isn’t whale season in the summer, you are still guaranteed a glimpse of sea life, be it sea lions or dolphins!

More Mexico City

Here are some more photos from my trip to Mexico City (Distrito Federal). We just tried the bottle of Cabernet Sauvingon I bought in Mexico for $8 US, and it was quite amazing! I you see a Baja Peninsula Cabernet Sauvignon, give it a shot!
