Well we have been in Amsterdam for 6 days now, wandering around sampling the beer and the sights.
What an amazing city, you truly can do or get anything you want here. As a photographer, you could spend a lifetime wanding around, capturing all the character that is hidden here. Some people do just that. But pictures aren’t the only thing you’ll be taking here. You will be taking in the history, the present and the future as well.
In this small space, there are buidings from the 16th century all the way to massive 21st century buildings in construction. There are canals everywhere; from the original walled city to the newer areas. Boats line the banks of every canal, from fishing boats to canal boats to houseboats to luxury yachts. There are bicycles everywhere, and you constantly have to be aware of their bells ringing in front, to the side and behind you!
In six leisurely days, we have:
- Visited the church where Rembrandt is buried
- Cruised the canals
- Been inside the hiding place of Anne Frank
- Found a hidden church inside a 16th century canal house
- Eaten wayyy too many croquettes
- Sampled flavored Brandy from a company that has been in business since 1679
- Almost been run over coutless times!
I can’t even remember most of the stuff that we have seen. It will take some time for that to burn into my memory….
