Farm…

Well, we survived our trip to the farm this weekend, except my wallet took a severe beating on the road, what with Diesel at $1.40/L. I’m sure next year that will be laughable but it still is painful. We did however expect Calgary to have slightly cheaper Diesel than Kamloops, but we were mistaken. Everywhere between was more expensive.

You can check out the photos here.

One light at the end of the tunnel is this was a great chance to test out our subtank some more. Not that you really need to test a tank, but just for grins let’s go over what we were able to accomplish with one filling:

  • Drive to Kelowna
  • Drive the old KVR to Naramata
  • One day of Naramata bench wine-touring.
  • Drive to Oliver, up the hills and camp.
  • Drive to Osoyoos, wine tour some more.
  • Drive to Penticton, wine tour some more.
  • Drive back home to Kamloops.
  • Run errands for 5 days.
  • Cruise around town on the weekend.
  • Run errands for 5 days.
  • Drive to Calgary.
  • Fill up in Airdrie. 1300kms and still a half tank to go!

Of course you still have to pull over for other things but nonetheless I am happy.

What’s coming soon?

This Weekend: Enjoy Canada Day around Kamloops.

July: Hopefully Camping, maybe a trip to the coast?

August: Holland. Then packing.

September: More Camping, More Packing, Moving?

October: Alberta, Alaska, Argentina, And Also An Amazing Adventure.

Checking In…

Well, our hits are over 2,500 on the new site, and we are averaging well over 500 hits a month now, so it seems as if interest is catching up! Thanks to all of you who are stopping by now and then to see what’s up.crw_7652.jpg

This weekend is a nice relaxer; Melissa is learning Bass, i’m learning my new lens, and thanks to the weather my neck and scalcrw_7668.jpgp are burnt. We went for a nice long walk downtown to get some stuff at the farmer’s market and to get some more hours with the new camera lenses.

I have my lenses pretty much setup for the trip. Here is the almost finished master list of photo gear:

  • Canon Digital Rebel (300D) – 6 MP small-sensor DSLR from the stone age.
  • Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 – crappy focus with crappy plastic lens, amazing glass! Equivalent to 80mm portrait lens.
    • Primary uses will be portraits, close-ups, and paired with…..

    Tamron 2x Tele-Converter – Workhorse of a 2x tele.

    • Paired with the 50mm, this makes an equivalent of a 160mm f/1.8 tele, which is pretty good for nature, sports, etc on a budget.

    Sigma 10-22mm f/4-f/5.6 – Amazing. Amazing.

    • Great for accidentally catching my feet in the frame due its extreme viewing angle.
    • Great for photo-journalism style shots, tight spaces, quick panoramas.

    Sigma 30mm f/1.4 – Race car fast.

    • f/1.4 means that low light jazz clubs, museums, and generic shots are always sharp.
    • This also means that a very narrow depth of field can be acheived, i.e. in a row of bikes parked, you can frame the shot so that only one bike is in focus. Great for portraits also.

Flip Video Camera – go-anywhere and film anything.

    • More than enough resolution for YouTube.
    • About the same price as a webcam.
    • If it goes missing/gets stolen, oh well. Same goes for the camera gear.

Next weekend we will be back at the farm in Halkirk, AB visiting with friends and family, so look for some flatland pics and vids next week!
