Some Wedding Photos.

I probably should have uploaded these about 6 months ago, but oh well! Here are some pictures from our wedding, September 15, 2007.

I know there isn’t much there yet, but we still haven’t met with our photographers in Edmonton, so there will be more soon for sure!

Ha! Progress!!!!

It has been a productive month!

We received our subtank from Australia, after lots of hassles with shipping. It is now on the truck, and I managed to put $250 worth of diesel with another 50 litres to fill!!! The LandCruiser sits a little more level now, that’s for sure.crw_6908.jpg

We have the beginnings of a storage system for the rear! I have finished most of the structure for our rear storage system. Made out of 3/4″ ply, screwed and glued, it will take a beating. Next is building the drawers (2 17x36x8 on hd slides) where the camp stove, cooking supplies and tools will go. Also, we will be building a top shelf for the Pelican case and ARB fridge.crw_6940.jpg

We also received our new laptop, and i’m in the process of getting all our stuff moved over to it so that we can download pictures from the camera, tracks from the GPS, and road journals so that you peoples can keep track of us.

Keep on truckin’, and we’ll see you on the loggin’ road!

Trip Report: A Walk along Kamloops Lake

Last weekend, my friends Mario and Dale and I made ourselves get out of bed and try to become less fat by walking. I’m not sure if it worked or not, but I do know we wore out poor Wailin. Any of you who come to visit will have to come see the Tranquille Farm. A modern ghost town, closed since the 80s with a history dating back to the 1880s, it is just plain creepy.Picture 017.JPG

We started our walk along the train tracks, which skirt the Tranquille property, and clutch to the side of the hills on the North side of Kamloops Lake. Wailin quickly developed a skill where he could hop from one tie to another, absolutely avoiding touching ground at all costs. His hard work was wasted when we strayed from the tracks to climb around the tunnel skirting the lake. There Dale showed us the preferrred cliff-diving rocks, which we didn’t test. We also saw the fattest Marmot I have ever seen. From there we wandered on the beach, chatting with nearby fishermen and just being dudes.

After that it was back to the truck and down to the entrance of the Farm, where you can get a real good look at the old buildings. Something about this place just feels wierd.Picture 015.JPG

Once we were at the lake again, we tried to find where that nasty carcass smell was coming from, however all we ended up doing is making more nasty jokes.

Trip Report: Pinaus Lake, Douglas Lake, and the mighty Fraser

Two weekends ago, Melissa and I decided to take a little trip up the hills. I told Melissa that we were going to Kelowna. And then I changed my mind and completely forgot to tell her! Let’s just say i’m still paying that one back.crw_6922.jpg
As we headed down 97, everything was peachy until I took a sudden turn, that was labeled, “Pinaus Lake, 12km”. It only took about 10 minutes before we were high above the valley, amongst the deer and snow. Now, Melissa likes deer, but she doesn’t like snow, especially when we are camping. Neither do I, but I kept thinking “the campground is at 800m. How much snow can there be?” Well, after a few clicks on the muddy, snowy, rutty, awesome road, we arrived at the egde of Pinaus Lake. At this point it was obvious to Melissa that we would be in the snow. Camping. An awful silence filled the truck, and I made a futile attempt to pretend that this is what we had planned to do all along. Well, after setting up camp and having a few drinks, all was well and we enjoyed sitting around the fire. I had too much to drink, but hey, is anyone surprised??

We slept in the RTT for the first time since last September, and it was great! We slept with the ‘back’ door open, so you could look out on the lake in the morning.

After breakfast, after packing up and visiting with out new ice-fishing buddy, we drove back out and hit up the Douglas Lake Road.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Douglas Lake Ranch, it is one of the best things to see while around Kamloops. Measuring in at 145,000 acres, it is an incredible sight indeed. Straight out of a western. Old homesteads, free-range cattle, roaming horses, and villages with white walls and red roofs.crw_6925.jpg

After our jaunt through the ranch, we pushed throught Merritt, along highway 8 to Spences Bridge. It was my goal to take the road along the eastern shores of the river, however it is closed to public access, so we were stuck on the old HWY-1. Not to complain of course, as the views are always stunning. From there it was back to Kamloops, and the regular life.

Oh, and if you haven’t figured it out yet, you can see all the recent pictures by browsing around the “photos” link you can see the most recent attempts at art to spew out of my camera.

Trip To Golden!

crw_6897.jpgOver the Easter weekend we took a trip to Golden and stayed at the Kicking Horse Resort in a cabin. I always like going to Golden, something about the Kicking Horse Valley that just never gets old…

We had plenty of time to read, walk, drink and sit in the hot tub. Not the most productive weekend, but sometimes you need to relax.

crw_6877.jpgWe took a hike around Cedar Lake, which is just east of the Kicking Horse. Its one of the many BC Forest Service Campgrounds that I just can’t wait to use in the summer. The road was a little snowy this time of year, and too many snow machines.

We also went and poked around Blaeberry just West of Golden. We explored some of the back roads, but saved the trip up to the falls for the summer. Beautiful old homes on nice sized pieces of land, with a full view of the valley to boot.

crw_6902.jpgWe also took a loop through Pritchard to pickup Wailin, and we continued along the Duck Range Road to HWY 97. Again, I can’t wait until the summer!
