Busy Times!

Well, Well, Well.

After what seems like an eternity, here I am to blog again! There are a few things that have prevented us from keeping all 3 of our loyal fans updated on our trip planning process. First was our wedding; by all accounts a success! Then there was my new job, a time consuming (and stressful) endeavor to be sure. Oh, and did I mention the new job being 800km away from home?

What this means is that there are many things that we are dealing with right now. But one important point to remember is that all these events tie into our trip. You see, being married helps us build our relationship stronger so that we will be better prepared to spend every day, every hour with each other for an entire year! My new job is a challenge; forcing me to learn new skills and gather information from everywhere. Research is definitely a skill required for our trip. Moving 800kms away from our friends and family makes us stronger in many ways, forcing us to rely on ourselves and each other even more.

Technicalities!

The Landcruiser is AWESOME. We received our rooftop tent (ARB) in September, and we had a chance to break it in on our honeymoon, camping all the way to the West Coast. Now that winter (and the 800km commute) has set in, the tent is in hibernation, but the LandCruiser is definitely not! Now that our home is the BC interior, the LandCruiser now sees double duty as both daily transportation and weekend exploration. There are so many logging roads and trails here that I giggle every time I break out the Backroads mapbook. The 3x lockers have taken us places where chains are a necessity. Someday we will get a set of those…

The Website

…is stagnant right now, mostly because I left the source code at home, oops. Look for significant updates come December, and don’t forget: the trip is still 10 months away.

The Trip

…Is most certainly still a go. True, it’s on the back burner right now, but that’s because it is a few months away. When I said everything ties into our trip, it’s true. This new job is a 1 year contract, and it’s well known that next year we will be gone. Moving forces us to do some spring cleaning, and eventually it will allow us an opportunity to free up the funds for travel.

The schedule of the Trip will change, I can guarantee you that. The trip will start no earlier than October 1st, 2008. We are still planning to “start” in Alaska, only now we will have to scratch most of the camping in Alaska and the West Coast Trail. We still plan to be in Central America for Christmas 2008; and South America in the new year!!
