Waiting…

…for the rig that is! As you sorta know, our beloved Landcruiser broke down en route from Vancouver some 3 weeks ago. Her Majesty broke down 20km East of Golden, BC in the most ridiculous spot. By ridiculous, I mean crappy. After walking about 5km, a woman was gracious enough to pick me up in her red-with-white-interior 1962 Valiant. Once in town, I managed to find a flatbed tow truck (Classic Towing) to pick up the rig and drop it off at the local diesel shop (Columbia Diesel). After one whole day of troubleshooting, the rig was pronounced with a near-fatal case of injector pump failure. Yes, I said the injector pump died. Those who know what that is will probably start laughing, or maybe they’ll squeeze out an “ouch”. Simply put, losing an injector pump sucks.

Now, for some folks that just had a few thousand dollars worth of pain slapped on their backs we may seem in good spirits. Well, that’s because Outback is paying to repair our rig! Not only are they covering the bill, they have sent the dead pump to Vancouver to repair it themselves, free of charge. That, friends is what you pay for when you go with the good guys.

So, as we speak, the pump is in Vancouver being repaired, the rig is in Calgary and we are waiting. We are patiently waiting because we know what a massive pain in the ass it must be to have to drop a few more grand on a truck that was sold as is, no warranties. Folks, do your homework when you plan on buying a JDM vehicle, make sure you go through one of the good guys! They cost a bit more, but you can’t beat the service!

July is when we expect to pick up where we left of 3 weeks ago with the Landcruiser. Yes, it’s been a long wait, with trials and tribulations. But we will soon be driving a virtually new 15 year old rig which just happens to be the best rig to cross a continent with!
